I'm not one to write reviews, but felt prompted to do so considering my entire experience since having Talquin "Service." Not only does the power go out even when it lightly rains, but expecting the power to be repaired promptly is a pipedream. Any time there is a moderate/major storm I can automatically presume to go without power for a minimum of 48 hours, if a storm occurs close enough to the weekend (Thursday or Friday) then I can safely expect to be without power until the weekend is over.

I have been given zero reasons to expect to talk to an operator on weekends. Much less anyone who actually knows restoration progress when I do manage to speak to someone. When asked why I don't receive updates on restoration or any occurring progress I was actually told that "customers don't want to be sent updates through text."

This left me dumbfounded and in utter disbelief hearing such a thing. When challenged on this, the Talquin Employee was audibly frustrated and told me I was incorrect when claiming customers want updates. Explaining how going without them gives the impression no work is being done had no effect on them. Can't even go to the outage map because it is not promptly updated either. So between the operators not knowing anything, no text updates, and infrequently updated outage map your guess would be good as mine when power gets restored after an outage.

At the recommendation of the operator I signed up for two different text notifications for when an outage will undoubtedly occur again, as I was told the burden to receive such updates are actually on the customer. So far after Helene I have received zero updates.

If I had any other option for an Electric Company I would use them instead, but where I live on the periphery of Tallahassee City Limits I'm stuck with Talquin. My hope in writing this review is not for Talquin to contact me, because at this point through their actions they have proven time and time again they will not change. This is a company cultural issue which undoubtedly starts at ownership and trickles down to everyone as a collective failure. What I hope to accomplish is for anyone reading this and has a choice between Talquin and a Competitor is to use the Competitor instead.

My wife and I are in our 80s and have paid our bill on time for years and donate each month for people who have trouble paying their bills. They shut our electricity off today in cold weather with no warning. I mailed Talquin check with three other checks that were cashed. The mail lost my check. It is not fair. Need to send warning out.

Transformer blew at 11 this morning. Was fixed less than an hour later. Have needed their service several times and have always gotten fast service. Thank you whoever came out today in this horrible heat to fix this. Much appreciation for you all at talquin.

Worst possible electric company.
When I shut off services over a year ago, I called the day I moved out to settle any final payments. The woman told me everything was done and my account was closed. Apparently this wasn’t the case and there was a balance left on my account. With no attempt to contact me, despite having my phone and email, they sent me to collections. Then, their collection agency made no attempt to contact me. So over a year later I found out about it through credit karma. Had to pay $400. I would have been more than happy to pay the bill in the beginning! Horrible communication, horrible policies. I would rather run on a treadmill to mill my own electricity than ever use talquin again.

Worst services ever in Leon county…power been out for over 24 hours…no power lines are down so it’s likely a sub station issue…been bright and sunny all day and not one truck has showed up to inspect and make repairs…city of Tallahassee has had power restored at almost 100% within the time my power has been out…people paying yall just to be sorry excuses of workers!

I’ve lived in many different places and I must say this is the worse Power Co I’ve ever experienced I’ve experienced more power outages here in Tallahassee in 2 years then I have in 2 decades before this . HORRIBLE

We've had Talquin for nearly a year now and I wanted to take the time to write this positive review, because it seems like they get a lot of hate. Talquin billing is easy and seamless, service hookup initially was a breeze, and every time we've reported an outage (which there have been a few, it's Florida after all and our weather is bonkers), they have always responded the same day! Usually within a few hours!
Huge shoutout to the guys who service the Centerville area, we appreciate your hard work.

I see why Talquin Electric has 2.4 stars. No one with the company that answers the phone can tell you why you don't have power or when you will have power. Especially difficult when you are in healthcare and have people depending on you to report to work; creates a hardship on multiple staff members because of my situation, and unfortunately, Talquin Electric is my only option for power. The City of Tallahassee utilities has a much quicker response/restoration time for their customers as I've seen with people I know who use them.
