DO NOT LIVE HERE IF YOU ARE A STUDENT - READ BEFORE MOVING

The apartment is a good place to live, only if everyone in the building complies with the rules. The second one person does not, it becomes a living nightmare because management does not handle issues properly. I lived here for a year with minimal issues. If a neighbor was too noisy, a hit on the wall usually got them to quiet down. However, after resigning a lease for a second year, everything got worse. New neighbors moved in directly across from my apartment. Right away, the smell of marijuana became noticeable every day. Complaints were sent to management and they did talk to my neighbors, but that was all. My neighbors continued to smoke in the building, and management did nothing about it. This was after my neighbors were also told they were not complying with the occupancy limits (way too many people were living there), and we dealt with so much foot traffic. It got to the point where a resident on the floor caught my neighbors smoking marijuana in the bathroom (this was suspected because there were guts from a blunt and ash found in the stairwell). After immediately telling the front desk of the smoking, they confirmed that the neighbors were there. However, NOTHING WAS DONE.

On top of that, they have a dog that is extremely loud. This wasn't a huge issue because it would only be loud for a couple of minutes. Still, management sent an email reiterating the responsibility of pet owners in the building, and only ten days later my neighbor left their dog alone and it barked nonstop for TWO HOURS while I was trying to study around winter quarter finals. Again, nothing was done. On top of all these issues, my neighbors also leave their garbage scattered on the floor. From chip bags thrown in front of my door to their garbage just left in the trash room instead of put down the chute, it has become impractical living near them.

In addition to problematic unit and poor management response, there are several other issues. The main one is that several dogs are allowed (by their owners) to take care of their business in the hallway. Just about every day (I wish this were an exaggeration but it is not) there is a new pee spot or actual feces somewhere in the hallway. It has gotten to the point where I have to wear a mask walking to the elevator just so I can get there without gagging. Again, all management does is increase the frequency of carpet cleanings, but it is not nearly enough because there is a new pee stain within hours of a cleaning. These issues appear to not be as prevalent on other floors, but this experience serves as an example of how poorly management will respond if it does affect your floor.

The cherry on top is that management also would not let me exit my lease early without paying several thousands of dollars, even if I was staying I the same building but on a different floor. I was left to deal with these issues by myself and suffer from them for months. Everything noted in this review has been shared with management, including all images attached. Somehow, they still found a way to not handle the issues properly. It is disgusting how careless they are, and it is so disappointing because the building has potential

I love living at the building known as Shoreland. The staff always greet you, they accept packages for you, the building is kept it great shape. The building has a fantastic view of Lake Michigan and my friends wished I took more pictures of it for them. They allow dogs and the monthly get together makes it feel like a home.

Tiwanna was immensely helpful this morning! I came to pick up my keys, and even though she was working at the front she was kind enough to do the role of resident services and do key handoff this morning. She was so kind and professional and went above and beyond!

I've lived here for nearly a decade and James is simply the best service technician. The only thing better than the speed of his repairs is the competence with which he handles them. On top of that he's a genuinely nice guy. Whatever MAC pays him, it isn't enough!

I met Juaria, who was a manager with a warm personality. She asked me to list a reason or two why i like it here. It's a great environment! Fun and safe place to live. It offers great views of the community and the people of our city.

I stayed at the Shoreland apartments in the unit managed by the University of Chicago Medical Center for transplant patients. Elliott, in building maintenance, was extremely accommodating on the day we moved in. He helped us move our luggage from our vehicle to the 7th-floor apartment. He made sure our key, fob, and parking pass were working. We needed a lot of supplies to stay near the hospital for 90 days, and Elliott made the day much easier for us. The concierge's are also very helpful and friendly.

I don’t know where to start. I was given a tour on 6/18 by Victoria Jones at Shoreland and it really is a beautiful place to be. The photos online gave me pause but wow it is nice. Definitely pricey and the amenities aren’t comparable to Regents, but the space you get far exceeds Regents. After the fantastic tour I had with Victoria, I sat in Shoreland to enjoy the Juneteenth event they were hosting after Victoria invited us to stay and as I was eating Ms. Juaria came to ask our opinion on the food but instead she had a full 30 min conversation about which property I should give more consideration to and she offered her insight as to the safety and amenities of the Hyde Park area. She did not push nor did she attempt to invalidate my concerns. She listened and provided clarification and honest opinions. After speaking with her I am more likely to sign a lease and sign it at Shoreland. I simply cannot give her enough praise. Thank you Juaria for being a resource!
