Wings Airways & the Taku Glacier Lodge - Juneau, Alaska

One of the things on our bucket list during our Alaskan Cruise vacation was to take a plane tour over the glaciers. During our stop in Juneau, we chose the Wings Airways Tour and we were not disappointed. Just a short walk from the drop off point from the shuttle of the cruise boat.

It was very reasonably priced and they told us the planes were older but you could not tell, as they look well maintained, clean, and comfortable. I think each plane holds 15 partners, if I recall, and each seat is a window seat, which is a must of course if you are going on a viewing flight tour.

We took off from the harbor, climbed easily and flew for miles and miles around the many glaciers and mountains. We saw about 5 glaciers I think it was, beautiful mountains as far as the eye can see, and views that can only be seen from the air as many passengers and areas are impossible to get to on land. Each seat has a private headset so the pilot can give you a narrated tour and point out the highlights and the views along the way. He did a great job letting you know which glacier you were viewing along the way.

There were several planes at the dock, they all looked similar, so I would assume the experience is the same in each. It was truly a breathtaking and thrilling experience and something that all ages will enjoy. You definitely should add this to your list of things to do on your next trip to Juneau. This is our second time booking this spectacular experience. The first was 7 years ago when my wife was pregnant with my son and we announced our pregnancy to everyone with photos that we had taken at the glacier, holding our ultrasound photos. This time we got the pleasure of bringing him back to experience the exact same things we did. It was such a special visit for us! These guys do a phenomenal job with preserving everything about this beautiful place and sharing it with everyone that visits. The float plane, the food at the lodge, the people and the natural beauty always exceed our expectations and the ride there with the scenery is seriously the icing on the cake. We cannot say enough about these folks, beginning to end.. 10/10 recommend booking the excursion, ride the plane, experience the glaciers, Taku Lodge! Did I see THE PEOPLE... seriously they make it all a memorable time... just Do it all! You will never regret it!

What an amazing experience! From start to finish it was such a pleasure dealing with the friendly and helpful staff at Wings Airways! The flight over the glaciers to the lodge is not to be missed! A true bucket list experience. We felt completely safe in the plane and the headphone narrative made the spectacular scenery even more meaningful.
At the Lodge, we met the friendly staff who really cared about their jobs and ensuring that we had a fantastic experience. We thought the salmon bake meal was excellent and we had all comforts of home including beer and wine. The whole afternoon was very well done, not touristy feeling and top notch in every way. Highly recommend and well worth it for the uniqueness of the total experience!!

What an amazing excursion this was. Wings Airways runs an extremely smooth operation. The flights and aerial tour of the glaciers on our way out to the Taku lodge was fantastic. And then spending a few hours in a secluded lodge, enjoying some freshly cooked Salmon and taking in amazing views. The staff on shore, our pilot and the crew that hosted us at the lodge were all phenomenal. This is a must if you’re visiting Juneau!

One of the best excursions on our Alaska adventures. Amazing views from the airplane and a wonderful, very informative recording played while flying. Taku Lodge was fantastic. The scenery was beautiful. The small hike was fun and had a pretty waterfall. The lodge was so quaint and the food was fantastic. The people were all so very friendly and informative. Everyone in our group agreed this was the best excursion on the trip!

We had our helicopter ride to the Glacier for dog sledding cancelled due to poor visibility so made a quick swap to this trip knowing nothing about it. We couldn’t have been more delighted. Everything from the superb flight and informative comments to the amazing Taku Lodge with its delicious meal and idyllic setting.
We will never forget this experience and cannot recommend this enough. If you get a chance do it!

Great experience! My 84-year-old mother and I took a seaplane trip to see the glaciers. Pilot made sure passengers on both sides of the plane got to see the amazing vistas and provided an interesting commentary along with the recorded information. What an amazing way to see Juneau; highly recommend! And they helped us with some photos after the trip.

Glacier sightseeing flight and lunch at Taku Lodge was the highlight of my trip to Juneau! Classic aircraft, smooth flying, friendly and professional staff, and some of the most incredible landscapes on planet Earth. Fresh salmon lunch at the Lodge hit the spot. Only regret: no bears paid a visit.
