I must say my experience looking for a apartment was underwhelming at times. However finding Woodlawn House Apartments and dealing with their Senior Property Manager Mr. Sims was the best thing that could've happen to me while looking for my next home. Mr. Sims professionalism, patience, and compassion while answering my inquiries was nothing less than incredible. An from first hand experience, I'm genuinely able to say you'd be lucky to have him handling your process in searching for the perfect apartment for you.

Recently , I been doing reviews on certain things because I realized it actually helps ppl. So I lived here from 2020-2021 (peak pandemic years) & truthfully I enjoyed my stay. I lived on the 5214 side and for some reason it is better than the other building, no idea why. But when I was there, it was like that other side got it the worst with building issues, gas leaks and pests. But don’t get too excited, a lot of my building neighbors had pest problems on my side too. However, I lived on that top floor & when I tell for some reason it was so peaceful on the 4th floor . I rarely saw bugs or roaches in my own unit and upstairs was so much quieter than below. Now for the cons: leasing staff was rude for no reason. Between the first girl Ana & the other lady Veronica, I forgot true customer service existed till I moved to the south. Ana cared more about her fashion than anything a resident had to say lbs. Veronica was rude asl to my mother in the midst of my move out process so for that she will always get 0 stars. No elevator (not even a freight one for move in) so would not recommend for my differently abled folk. I heard Roaches run rampant on those bottom floors and in the hallways so you been warned! I bet that workout room still look a mess. Pros: However, I liked maintenance a lot. ✨Always looked out, quick & friendly. Prime location because it’s Hyde Park , good transportation , walking distance from the lake, block parties, food spots etc. diverse but strong black culture so not racist. Heart of the city, easy to see friends/family but still close to downtown if you work. Also , I figured out to make TLC management’s quote system work for me so I only paid $ 675 total for my studio and utilities . But seriously, This building does need a make over, better pest control ,better staff, new management & maybe even some foundation work , so rent at your own risk. Hope that helps! 💓

Hello this message is for anyone thinking about living here,

The property manager for this location is a joke her name her name is Veronica and this woman is the most unprofessional property manager I ever met in my life. After I put in my 30 day notice for my disabled mother who lives at this location she has consistently insisted we stay but I complained about the lack of ventilation and how it has created health issues for my mother. She then tried to tell us their was a bigger unit available to again stop us from moving out. This was a untrue statement and manipulation to get us to stop looking for other apartments. She never followed up and she is never in her office to actually make contact. So I decided to look else where in the TLC community. After successfully completing our application and being approved by another TLC property. Veronica called my phone frustrated and annoyed that we found somewhere else to go. She went on to say we can’t get the keys to the new place because it’s illegal to have two leases again this is a untrue statement and further manipulation. If you reading this I want to remind you that I been living within the TLC community for almost 4 years and never had a problem until this lady. We were approved for the new unit with a week and a half until the end of our lease. 4 days before our move out date she calls saying my mother and I was denied for the apartment that We were already approved for a week prior. When I asked why she said she didn’t know. This woman Veronica made false reports to sabotage our plans to move to force us to a stay and when it didn’t go her way she has now went out her way to destroy innocent peoples lives. I kept asking the reason I was denied and she kept deflecting but little do she know I have never been denied for a apartment a day in my life!! I’m blessed with an excellent credit score and income 5x the rent that I use to care for my disabled mother . This woman is so unprofessional and has a personal vendetta against the young ladies at the new building for taking our application without her knowledge. She kept asking me did I ever have issues anywhere else and I answered 5 times “NO”. She went on complaining about the young ladies and how they doing they job. She is currently trying to dodge accountability for make a false negative reports. I never had issues with TLC before nor have I ever been denied for housing. So why as soon as this woman gets involved I’m being denied for a apartment for my mother who is disabled? I will tell you why it’s because Veronica is the scummy type of person who will deliberately ruin other peoples lively hood to try to meet a quota and simply abuse the power bestowed upon her by TLC to not let another property manager look better than she does. Her actions are causing hardship on my family by making false negative reports to upper management to get us denied for a apartment we were already approved for over a week prior. These reports stay on your housing record when applying for new apartments. Now my disabled mother is facing homelessness in a terrible Chicago housing market when untrue statements made by a evil property manager that TLC hired. This woman went out of her way to get us denied because her feelings were hurt we was moving. She never wanted us to leave Woodlawn house now what she is doing is unlawful and I won’t take actions like this against my mother lightly. You can’t have people in positions of power taking they personal feelings into consideration when other people lives are at stake. This woman clearly is operating in a distasteful manner and ruining the good name of the TLC company. And the worst part is TLC has no direct supervision to report a terrible individual like Veronica. DO NOT MOVE HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HOUSING RECORD BECAUSE TLC HIRED A PERSON WHO WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE BECAUSE OF HER PERSONAL JEALOUS & ENVIOUS FEELINGS TOWARDS YOUNGER WOMAN IN THE SAME FIELD AS HER WHO ACTUALLY ARE GOOD PROPERTY MANAGERS AND ACTUALLY GOOD PEOPLE UNLIKE HER. DISGRACEFUL!!!

5214 seems like the better building which explains why it’s promoted more. But building 5210 is the most dirtiest place I ever lived, there’s huge cockroaches everywhere. I’m very ashamed that this is my first apartment.

I recently moved in from Georgia. The office manager is super nice and helpful. The apartment I moved into is a studio apartment which I great for me since I’m on the go most the time. There’s online services like rent pay and maintenance. I would recommend for college students.

Mold, rats, and HUGE roaches!!! I lived there for a year and it was horrible. No matter how many extermination are done it never works. There are roaches all over the place in the 5210 building. Hall, laundry room, and let's not forget the apartments.
