Do not live here unless it is your last resort. I knew the unit did not include a sink when I signed the lease, but did not know that there is very rarely hot water in the community kitchen sinks, making it extremely difficult to cook/do dishes. My unit was also without hot water several times this winter when temperatures were below freezing. Package theft is extremely common as nobody is ever around to let mail carriers into the mail room, and so packages get dumped just inside the entrance. Property management and maintenance are impossible to contact once you move in, and emergency maintenance is nonexistent. My fridge has not been working for over a week and I have not heard back from maintenance about the issue since I was told they would bring me a new one two days ago. The contact number in the renters portal is non-functional and there is rarely anybody in the office to speak to in person.

Called this place home for 3 months while on fellowship at Uchicago.
It is a walkable distance from the University and close to a whole foods, target and other stores in hyde park.
It is quiet and has fast internet. The managers also keep the place clean and tidy.
Management is responsive to repair requests. Highly recommend

Do not live here. The rooms don’t even come with kitchen sinks, and it’s a coin flip as to whether or not you’ll have hot water. In fact, more often than not, you won’t—even when it’s 0 degrees outside in the dead of winter. Maintenance is impossible to get a hold of over the weekend, so good luck if you have an emergency. The building is so old that the doors will randomly break and you’ll get stuck outside your room, even if you have a key. Genuinely, do not live here unless it’s your absolute last resort.

Anyone considering living here I would say to highly reconsider, if I could give zero stars I would, the only good things about this place is affordability, location and the people (not including staff/management and the filthy thiefs here who steal non-stop) upon arrival my unit was absolutely trashed and wasn't shown as advertised, a piece of my stove top was broken off, dust on the power outlets, sloppy paint job, mirror cabinet wouldn't close all the way, shower was dirty, window ceiling isn't properly sealed so cold air regularly comes in, heat wasn't working, etc, I ended up having to spend a night at a friend's place because I was so upset and disappointed, not to mention it was so cold it felt like the ice age! The landlord Patrick Gentry was extremely incompetent, unapologetic and unresponsive when I brought these issues to him, since the beginning of the month I have requested for him to either move me or reduce rent as this unit needed months worth of renovation, they also think I don't know but half of the reason my unit is a mess is due to a previous tennat destroying it! I was told by other tenants he wrote on the door, damaged it and had multiple instances where the police had to come, to add further damage this same guy came to my apartment a few days after I moved in the previous tenant came to MY door which made want to move units even more, as stated before Patrick has been nothing but tacky, unresponsive and unapologetic, he LIED to me and said he would move me when availablity came up but I check the website and he posted a unit for someone else to rent, they're also notorious for never answering the damn phone or being in office! If anyone somehow does decide to want to move here I advise you to constantly advocate for yourself and know your tenant rights

Management makes anything good about this place obsolete. The leasing office has no true office hours. They come and go as they please. You will never get anyone on the phone, and Sherry, the leasing manager? You can only talk to her in person if you want anything done. No phone calls. No emails. I've lived here for 2 years and when my lease ends next year, I will be leaving.

There have also been roaches spotted throughout the building, in units, and in the building 3L living owns in this area.

Also you probably don’t wanna live here if you can’t handle bugs cause this place is INFESTED with cockroaches, ants, spiders, and Centipedes! Also management doesn’t respond to calls, texts, emails or app complaints.
Also I’ve lived here for 4 months and my bike has been stolen, I’ve been followed to my apartment by some guy in the laundry room, packages were stolen left and right, some girl had all her clothes stolen from the laundry room, and someone tried to break into my apartment while I was home.
If you live here carry your taser and rape whistle like me!
Lets hope for the best until my lease is up.

If I could give this trashy, unprofessional, highly unethical "apartment unit" zero stars I definitely would have. I visited this apartment for a tour on Friday May 10 at 4:45pm CST for a tour. Upon arriving I was told by the "Leasing Agent" that he would need to retrieve my ID to keep it secured in his desk in his top drawer until we concluded the tour. I agreed and he also stated "Your ID will be kept safe so don't worry." Not sure why he needed to reassure me but I agreed and watched him place my ID in his top desk drawer. After we concluded the tour I came back downstairs sat down and had a brief conversation and left. WIthin those about 10 minutes before I left I was not given my ID back and left before remembering to ask for it. Nor did the "leasing agent" remember to give it back to me. Once I arrived home I had realized my ID was still in his office and I sent him an email. He responded and informed me no one would be in the office Saturday for me to retrieve it, I then requested a time Monday to come retrieve it and he never responded. About two weeks had passed in between me calling and emailing him. Today I was contacted by another "leasing agent" asking if I wanted to schedule a tour because I guess my information was still in their system from the last time. I then informed the agent that it was unprofessional that they only contact individuals when they are attempting to schedule a tour but never responded to any other form of communication. I informed the agent that I had been trying to retrieve my ID for the past two weeks, the agent placed me on hold and came back to the phone and told me MY ID WAS NOT THERE. I then asked to speak to the Property Manager and a very irate, unprofessional, hostile and condescending woman came to the phone yelling and racing me for words screaming at the top of her voice telling me my ID was not in their office. She did not let me get a word out at all and tried to convince me that I replaced it. She would not let me explain any of the situation to her and tried to throw around the little power that she does have. Not sure what type of scam of an apartment front that this place is but the agents here are very weird, unprofessional and slow to say the least. If this is the kind of interaction I experienced just from a tour I can only imagine that leasing from them would be hell with a Property Manager like the one I spoke to today those people in that unit has to be living in pure hell.

Leasing agents are helpful when you're a prospective tenant, but the second you're no longer interested, you don't matter to them.The notorious lady manager mentioned in previous reviews is even worse than described. I'd sooner live below E Wacker Drive than be talked down to and disrespected by any person of authority over my living situation. She is, by far, the main reason I will not be renting here
