I have been a menber for 16 years -as long as they have been in existence.
I just had a check, returned for the first time in over 16 years for a bill, but it's not even due yet and they are threatening me with shutting off my power. Despite the fact the bill was not due for another 20 days.
hi see this is been a recurring issue with this co-op
they really need to take some lessons and business etiquette

I've not had an issue yet, but my Mother, who paid her bills faithfully did. She missed a payment around Christmas one time years ago. They cut off her lights and were so rude and had no empathy. In current days, I read posts of people having $700 bills and get some boxed response from A&N, instead of sending someone to check.
People, when you have issues, file cases with Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). Share your experiences so that ANEC gets investigated and held responsible. Make them do their jobs and stop giving canned responses.
Shout out to the linesmen, they work hard for the Shore. Super pleased with how they keep the lines working.

0 stars if it would let me. By far the worst utility company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. If you are 1 day late paying your bill they will mail you a threatening letter saying they will disconnect your service and charge you a fee to reconnect. I'm talking if you pay the afternoon of the day after your bill was due they will have sent out a threatening letter first thing that morning. Horrible people.

Wow, surprised by all the negative reviews. I've never had power shut off due to missed payments or had to deal with the office aside from getting power connected and turned on at two houses now; I had no issues with either. I can say that when ANEC took over we had way fewer outages at my old home and almost none at my new home other than when they are hooking up another house on the street. ANEC has done way more preventative maintenance on the lines, poles and trees than Delmarva Power ever did and ANEC linemen are out before the storm is over to get power back up and running. No complaints here.

Have been a customer of Anec's ever since they took over here in Cape Charles. I've never in my life had service interrupted for non-payment. In fact, power was off for 3 hours before I even called them. I just assumed a line had been hit or the wind had interrupted service. Finally when I realized no one else on the block had lost power, I called them. I was in shock when I learned that my service was cut off on March 8th (bill was 30 days late on March 7th). YES, my oversight and I apologized and asked why no one had called or emailed me. They had an incorrect phone number. "Shannon" said that was my fault for that,
BUT it was day 31 for goodness sake!!! I have been a customer for many years with never an issue!! I was happy to pay the past due amount and apologized but was told I also had to pay a $40 reconnection fee AND pay the bill through the month of March; even though it was not due and today is just the 8th.
I asked if there was any grace given to long term customers and perhaps they could waive the $40 but was told NO!
The person was rude and would not let me speak with a supervisor.

It's not about the money. Thankfully I was able to pay the bill but I worry about single parents or others who have lost their jobs or having financial difficulties. This company clearly does not care!! They could stand to learn a lesson or two from (the late) Tom Ferrell and Dominion Energy!!

With all that's going on in the world today, please just be kind!! I'm not only upset for how I was treated but I'm super upset for future customers of A&N who will be unable to come up with the funds to turn their power back on. I don't think these people have any conscience !!

I so wish we had another choice for service here on the shore!

I’ve not had a problem, their service department has been good to me in scheduling and performing disconnects for my electrical business. The lineman are accommodating and Paying my bill is efficient at the office....People become unpleasant because in their small minds they don’t see that they are getting anything for their money. They don’t realize electricity cost money to produce and distribute, to them it’s something the company gets for free and sells them through a box. It’s not that hard to understand really, rather, it should not be, A&N should require it’s customers to watch a short informative documentary on how electricity is produced, what it cost, and what the definition of a co-op is, then have there electric cut off for two weeks, no flat screen, no way to wash there sweat pants or play video games. I think their point of view would change, well 50% anyway.

If you call with questions about your bill they are rude & condescending. If you receive Fuel Assistance they say 700 people get it & they can't give the credit on the bill they are receiving from Fuel Assistance. But they will charge you a late fee monthly for a month or two, to people who already are struggling to pay their bill. They say they have to send the bill into Fuel Assistance monthly & wait on payment. But they can tell you on the phone how much Fuel Assistance you are receiving. Is this a hand shake between Fuel Assistance & ANEC to take more money than is owed to them ? In another state you are credited on your bill your full Fuel Assistance upon approval. I look at my ANEC bill & have no idea why It seems 1/2 my bill is going one place then doubled to another place. They are worst I've dealt with. If they had any decency they would be ashamed of their practices. They help no one but line their pockets.

We were getting partial power to our house due to a loose connection from the pole to the house. I called ANEC and spoke to Stephanie (who was very pleasant and helpful) and within an hour a service tech was here and had fixed the problem. I know there are some bad reviews here about customer service (I too have had some unpleasant interactions over the years). However, on an island that gets barraged with storms and wind and rain each year, ANEC is fantastic at keeping the power on! Thank you ANEC crew for working long hours at a dangerous job to keep the lights on for us!
