I went by there this morning. It's a very busy place. The workers were very friendly and helpful. After viewing the different types of materials that are accepted, I will be stepping up my efforts to recycle materials. Especially paper items. The traffic flow in and out makes it very easy to drive through and drop off items. I was very impressed with the beautification efforts to facility. Keeping Birmingham Beautiful and recycling for the environment at the same time.

Great to have this place in Birmingham!
Sadly, the US economy has yet to embrace recycling. That said, the recycling center can only accept what they can recycle and true recycling means selling material to somebody who reuses it. Offloading glass or types of plastic that cannot be recycled, at least at the moment, will put the burden of moving the material to a landfill onto AEC's budget.
Take a moment and praise the Alabama Environmental Council for providing recycling opportunities, or better, take 2 moments and donate to the cause!
Why not 5 stars?
Gaps in communication is my main issue. The guys at the center are as nice as they can be but nobody ever answers the phone and the website needs some TLC. The website could be clearer about materials that are accepted (defining electronics, how to identify plastics), the website could offer information where and how materials are recycled, the website could be clearer about who can recycle (commercial and residential?) and how much they are willing, able to accept, the recycling center could offer cradle-to-grave sign-offs and could use some sprucing up for appearance and to protect surrounding areas from windblown paper and plastic.

I think they could do better with picking up bins in a timely manner from our school. We've been using them for about 4 years now and this is the first year of problems with inconsistencies with them. If they are emptied on a regular basis, we can continue to recycle even more. Full unpicked up bins means no room to collect more recycled materials.

I love this place! When we first moved to Alabama and asked about recycling, we were told, "Oh, we don't do that here." We were so disappointed. Then, I hopped online and found AEC and was relieved to see that Alabama does recycle. I agree that the State should support this effort. AEC is so well organized. If the State would support by providing large containers in the city, and the different townships more people would recycle. Not to mention, it would provide jobs for people such as truck drivers to haul the containers to the recycling center and more workers at the center to help process. Thank you AEC for making a difference.

This is a community-supported recycling center operated by a nonprofit organization. They are one of the few places that accepts glass for recycling, and the friendly staff always do a great job. It is located close to Birmingham Recycling and Recovery.

Great place that offers opportunities to recycle a lot more than just plastic and paper. I went there today and found it closed. I kind of expected it to be like the old place where you could drop stuff off even when it's 'closed', but the new location is totally locked up and inaccessible when it's closed. The hours could be a little more accommodating for working properly but whatever. Awesome place.

I love this place! There is even an area with books for sale. But yes, check the hours before you load up the car. Also, it's best to sort your stuff ahead of time. Thanks for your service 🙂

I cannot finish rating then until I see that they are on top of our green drinking water and extremely high phosphorus levels in the water and other issues skin irritations from their water in harvest Monrovia and Huntsville Alabama. We are giving them an opportunity to do their job before EPA comes in. Although her report was filed with the national response team.
