As many others have posted, they are renting front wheel drive vehicles and once it snows, the cars are not safe. I called and asked for a solution and the woman says, “we are supplied with front wheel drive cars by corporate and you have to drive carefully.” This is after I told her we had spun out driving 10 mph and had to be pushed back onto the road by 2 lovely strangers. She then tells me to buy snow chains, and she won’t reimburse me for them. I then read a review here that the snow chains can damage the car and then we would be financially responsible for the cost of the damage. Absolutely abysmal customer service and I will not be using Avis ever again.

AVIS at the Hayden Airport in CO, is a wonderful office. Audra and her team are friendly, efficient, and very helpful. We had our first glitch with this trip--our brand new car didn't have heat!! We drove back to the airport and we had a new car/same make & model ready to go within minutes. Thanks Audra and team--you guys rock the Rockies!!

Rental pick-up staff was very friendly and attentive. They gave me a FWD Suv. Made for some extremely exciting mornings on icy roads.

Returned the car after filling up at a nearby gas station and was charged $16.99 for returning .1 gallon under full. Be very wary of sneaky charges/nickel and diming!

We were extremely disappointed with our rental. We reserved a minivan which we received and it promptly stalled at a very busy intersection in Steamboat Springs. Our party of 4 had to push the car to a safe location on the side of the road. We spent several hours on the phone with Avis roadside service working out a plan to replace the car. We were told not to drive it and that another car was not available for at least 24 hours. After received a replacement vehicle almost 36 hours later we were told by Avis customer service that we could not be compensated for the missing days of our rental until *after* we returned the car and paid full price for the rental. This is unacceptable customer service. I will be sharing my experience with all of my colleagues.

Brand new 12 passenger van with 400 miles has constant leak from left rear tire. Difficult when you're in the snow filled mountains to fix. Second, the vans cargo door was stuck and extremely challenging to open. Constant irritation with this rental. No one to resolve this. Very aggravating.

The first car I was assigned had to be switched after putting our luggage in because the rear seat belt was wrapped around the headrest and lock. Therefore my daughter was unable to buckle.

The second vehicle was an old CRV Honda that should be removed from your fleet immediately!

This pile of S*** is a huge liability!!!!
Front wheel drive only despite being labeled as all wheel drive.

The tires are complete bald, the wiper fluid was frozen because someone did not use 32 below fluid.

Not only does is not stop, turn or go you can not see our because the fluid was frozen!

The smell of the interior and overall 41K of hard miles are a whole other matter all together.

I will NEVER rent another vehicle from Avis again!

We reserved a SUV in steamboat HDN airport. The lady who gives us the car told us it’s 4 wheel drive but it’s clearly not. We realized it immediately after it started snowing. The car is totally undrivable in snow condition and it put us in danger multiple times. For a rental car on snowy mountains, it has extra thin tires with over 50000 mileage. Never seen rental car with that high mileage and I’m a Avis preferred plus member.
When on road, it slipped like thousands of times. Even for the entry way to airport, just because there’s a little bit slope (less than 5 degree) it slipped again. Not sure how they could let others rent such a dangerous car here. Horrible experience.

I rented for 5 days and only used it for going to steamboat and coming back to airport cuz I’m afraid to drive that car. Unbelievable experience. The reception desk never said sorry for it. The car would surely have accidents sooner or later.

I rented a Toyota 4Runner to drive from Steamboat to Salt Lake City. Arrived early morning Thu to pick up. The ladies behind the desk were helpful and accommodating. Gave me good advice on which highways to take and what to avoid, with storms sweeping in.

4Runner was older, but in good shape. And a beast in some of the high winds I had to traverse. For a small airport, with limited supply, I was very happy. Thanks you Avis…and ladies for opening up early for me! ✌
