At first, things seemed to go well with the Blue Raven team. Then the constant delays and redesigns started happening; of course, Blue Raven layed off these delays on Colorado Springs Utilities, and it seemed plausible. The system they finally installed was perfect, technically; their panels use integrated micro-inverters! Just plug-and-play! But nonetheless, from beginning contact to end of installation took more than a year! And in the end, we didn't get near the power output we asked for, nor the original design!
We let 1 year go by, and recontacted Blue Raven for an additional two panels we wanted, to complete the original design. BR responded, saying we needed to send 1 year's worth of our power bills to them for evaluation and design. We only requested "TWO PANELS" to fill out our array! But it had to go to the design team! For TWO PANELS! JUST BRING THEM OUT AND PLUG AND PLAY! What designing is required?!
We didn't know that Blue Raven had been acquired by Sun Power, Inc., and that BR's sales structure had completely been revamped to a "100% commission" pay structure. That means the more the salesman sells, the more he makes!
So this salesman, Adriana, calls us up and insists we go on a Skype type call on our laptop, to do a business meeting. He then proceeds to tell us we need 7 more panels and he wants to install them on East and West facing roof structures AND EVEN THE NORTH facing roof! We said we didn't want to do that, and he begins his song and dance...our panels are too old to match (only a year?)...we can't put two more in the design hole because of some imaginary fire code...the technologies won't mesh...excuse after excuse to try and sell us more than we wanted.
Here's the trick of the Skype-type call...he can hear EVERYTHING anyone says in the background! DONT TAKE A SKYPE-TYPE COMPUTER CALL! I whispered to my wife, "..this guy's not only knows nothing about solar, but he's a scammer.."
This guy then proceeds to tell my wife he is sorry for her that she has to live with me! Because I was telling her, off camera (but not off microphone) that he was a scammer. He says to her that he will take it all back to his "design team" and we end the call. Back and forth numerous more times, and he says that they just can't do it and we'll have to just close the work order [the Ultimatum]; we said fine, we'll go somewhere else [called his bluff].
Lowe and behold, we get a text a week later saying that, wonder of wonders, the design team CAN just give us two more panels...and right where we want them!
Watch out for BLUE RAVEN Solar sales people. In my experience, they're liars or worse, totally ignorant of how solar works, and they'll waste truckloads of your time. If you don't know what you're buying, they'll take total advantage of your ignorance just to get into your bank account!
Their technology is GREAT! Their installation teams are exemplary, and our electric bills DID go WAY down! But their sales person was a slimy lying scammer, based solely on his dealings with us.

Based on the slimy reply, myopinion has NOT changed. The reply is mere damage control! The reply addressed ONLY the new 'fire code setbacks' and didn't even mention the fact that the salesman tried to sell us solar panels on EAST, WEST, and even NORTH facing roof slopes! What self respecting solar company puts solar panels on a NORTH facing sloped roof...especially with a 1 in 7 pitch!? Let alone EAST and WEST facing slopes!!!
As for the new setback, the fire code now requires a space between rows of panels for firefighters to get up on the roof to be able cut a vent hole in the roof. Panels already exist on my roof with NO SPACING! That's over a garage space with a completely open north facing roof WITH NO PANELS! Blue Raven didn't even TRY to present this! They just shrugged and said.."...it can't be done!" "...but panels on a north facing roof CAN be done!" In my opinion these people are either worthless solar planners, or worse, idiots! They certainly wouldn't go to bat for us!
