We did a lot of research and due diligence before deciding on who to go with for our solar install. We got several competing bids before making our decision on who to go with. Cal Solar did the best job not only with the install but advising us about the options available to us. It can be a pretty daunting task to soak it all in before signing on the dotted line but we felt very informed and there was absolutely no pressure to go forward. Keeping our hard earned money in the local community as well as supporting an employee owned instead of sending it elsewhere was also a plus in our decision
Everything happened on schedule for our install even though supply chain issues were causing lots of delays elsewhere. Part of our installation required interfacing with another company that was installing a permanent whole home generator and that happened without a hitch. The only hiccup in our journey was due to PG&E not moving is over to their solar customer side of billing for several months. This was not due to any fault on Cal Solar's behalf, it was all due PG&E's billing department. We eventually got a full refund for over payments that we were billed for.
Our system just passed the one year anniversary date about a month ago and our first annual true-up bill from PG&E showed that we had produced some surplus power and owed nothing.

One year in, the team has kept in touch throughout the application, installation, and runtime processes. The rooftop panel installation is neatly compact, and nearly invisible from the street.

My concern was not just saving money with daily generation, but having backup power when the PG&E system is down, which is frequently in my area. I've been very happy with the performance of the system. It clicks over seamlessly when there is an outage, and generates significant power even on hazy days.

The controller also anticipates serious bad weather, and shifts the percentage on the Tesla Powerwall back-up battery to 100%, so I do not have to do this manually. That is really helpful, and keeps the worry factor down.

My decision to invest in the Powerwall battery has been validated by the worry-free performance of the system, and keeping my monthly PGE bills to zero is also confirming my calculation: that basically pre-paying for power is a wise way to manage my power needs and costs now and into the future.

California Solar did a very professional job in sizing the system, installing the various elements, and coordinating with the other firms needed to get the whole system up and running. I also appreciate the worker-owned ESOP structure of the firm: each worker has an economic incentive to perform their duties efficiently and courteously. It shows in the product. I have no hesitation in recommending this firm to you.

We received bids from 3 companies - and decided on a local company- Cal Solar. This company was amazing. We started this process in March 2022 - meeting with Travis and Michael. They stayed a couple of hours talking pricing, product availability and what we would need to meet our current usage from PG&E. We signed a contract a couple of days later and we were told installation would be in July. Cal Solar was great in keeping us in the loop with the design phase, permit phase and funding. Cal Solar actually installed 2 weeks ahead of schedule and the job was completed in 4 days. The crew worked 10 hour days and they were always friendly and courteous. Every day additional crew members would come by to offer their help on our project just because they wanted to help their coworkers. They all seemed to get along great which I believe kept our project on track. Cal Solar took care of all of the permit paperwork, meeting with the inspector for final approval and now sitting patiently with us for PG&E to come and give their approval on the project. Thank you to the whole Cal Solar Team but especially to Travis, Michael, Vince (our project manager), Tyler (and his great crew!!) and Luisa who met with the inspector. This company is amazing and we wish them much success in the years ahead!!
