Cove Sound Moorings is a beautiful marina with plenty of marine life to enjoy and a quiet peaceful environment. I had my boat there for over 2 years and enjoyed my stay.
This marina has no onsite management with a part time dockmaster that may stop by once a week or so and an assistant who is usually there but he makes no decisions and does not give out his phone number so all communications must go through James Taylor, the dockmaster. The marina changed to month to month leases only about a year or so ago. My rent went up 20% but I have to say they are reasonably priced for the market. Unfortunately, there is no working security cameras. They are easily seen rusted and falling off their mounts. The East seawall security lighting tripped a breaker nearly every storm despite me notifying them of this occurrence.
The change to month to month leases has resulted in the turnover rate of renters has increased than when they had a lot of annual leases. Unfortunately, this increased workload seems to have affected James. He clearly does not want to be bothered with his part time gig here, never answers his phone, always leave a message and he may get back to you in a day or so.
I had found a new marina practically right around the corner that is better suited to my needs near the end of July. I notified James in writing of my departure that I had already paid rent for August in the new location and would be vacating and surrendering my slip within a few days. I felt it was reasonable for CSM to use my security deposit as my August rent. I have never been late with rent. Their lease states that rent is not considered late with a penalty until the 10th of the month. This was not acceptable to James and he insisted I go get him a money order for August rent. I offered to give him $600 cash for him to hold for the couple of days until I vacated then he could hand it back to me. I just did not want my security deposit tied up that could take them a month or so to return but he refused. James refused to respond to my text request for the marina’s owner’s contact info so I could call them.
I had asked James for some assistance in getting my 50’ boat turned around to safely vacate their marina. Now I am twice James’ age with a disability and his snarky response to me was “I’ll be happy to stand on my dock, push your boat away and wave bye bye to you”. I had a greater concern for the other boats around me than the Dockmaster for goodness sakes! Fortunately, my new marina was able to help me get my boat and I moved on August 4. I ended up talking to the CSM owner who gave me a check for my security deposit within a few days.
As I said, Cove Sound Moorings is a beautiful, quiet marina. James only shows up occasionally, so my advice is to avoid bothering him with marina issues. See something, say nothing. Of course, James may just have a bias against me, your experience may be totally different.

Didn't really get to see all that this marina/mooring has available, but it did look nice and has easy access to the slips. Doesn't have a large amount of slips or parking space though.

No one ever answers the phone. Even leaving a message and no returned calls. Wanted to stay there with several other cruisers, but just will pass as there is no interest.
