This state park was just sad. It was set up like a tourist attraction zoo from the 1960s with old rundown chain link fence around very small cages or areas for various birds, a bear that was neurotically walking back and forth, and other animals. The viewing area for Manatee was just beside a bunch of industrial equipment and everything was just pretty sad and poorly maintained. Definitely not what we were looking for and definitely not something we would go back to. Pretty bad smell too. But what do you expect for a zoo?. It would appear the only improvements that have been made over the last 50 years are switching the boards out to recycled lumber. The big tourist attraction on big signs of an underwater viewing area was closed, permanently, and looks like it was just a small room under a concrete bunker. Overall very disappointing and nothing worth seeing.

I enjoyed this place. I loved the butterfly garden. We took lots of pictures of butterflies and other neat bugs! We got to learn a lot about manatees and watch a manatee feeding from below water level. It was very cool. The spring was beautiful and the water was crystal clear. You can choose to pay a small additional fee and take a boat ride to the sanctuary of you'd like. It's pretty neat. There's more information given on the boat.

A beautiful and informative park! The underwater observatory and a few other things are currently closed due to the hurricane but there's still plenty to see and experience.

This place is awesome. This was the highlight of our road trip. The whole place is so well kept and clean. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the animals are great. I think this is the gist time I've ever been so up close and personal with a hippo. We'll be back again for sure!

We waited 20–30 minutes for the “tram” to start, and then had to wait another 20–30 minutes on our return because they couldn’t lift someone onto the cart. Our entire walk was less than 1h. The underwater observatory was closed.

The park felt depressing, with sad broken smelly birds and animals pacing back and forth. Some space seemed really small and dirty. Not only was it a waste of time, but it also felt wrong to support this… although some of them looked rescued.

Great animal park all with Florida animals except for the hippo. A good chance to see the manatee although we didn’t see any in the lake when we were there. A wooden boardwalk leads you through all the animals in the park.

You can park at the Visitor center and take the boat or train to the entrance or, as we did, park opposite the entrance gate itself on Fishbowl Dr.

An amazing place to spend the day. We loved seeing the manatees for the first time. The park also features an animal rehab with species ranging from tortoises to a 63 year old hippopotamus named Lu who is an honorary Florida citizen and movie star. It's a really beautiful place to visit even during the winter season.
