Jeff Cowart of Green Electric seriously damaged the hardwood floors in my house two months ago. This was caught on home security video. He admitted in voicemail and text that he caused the damage and said he would arrange to have it fixed. Unfortunately, he stopped responding and canceled his insurance. He has been ignoring the State of Connecticut's attempts to contact him regarding this issue. It's a shame I have to write this poor review because he did good electrical work for us in the past. Well, he has shown his true colors now. He is your typical shady contractor. Stay away!
EDIT: I see Mr. Cowart has responded to my negative review. Unfortunately, he is simply trying to save face and outright lying about what happened.
I submitted 3.5 minutes of video footage to the Department of Consumer Protection, including the full conversation we had regarding the furniture, wherein I instructed him (direct quote), "Feel free - if you have to move any furniture or anything - feel free." That's all I said. No mention to "slide" the furniture or of felt pads like he's claiming. Unfortunately, Google only allows for photos in reviews, but I would post the video if I could! As a contractor, I expected Mr. Cowart had a pair of furniture sliders (can be purchased at Home Depot for $10) rather than dragging a heavy couch and wooden entertainment center across a solid wood floor, but I was sadly proven wrong.
Further, we never "acknowledged the gouge existed before he arrived" like he says. In the initial text conversation immediately after we discovered the scratches, my husband said the couch scratch "may" have been there (he wasn't sure without confirming with me), but we later confirmed with Mr. Cowart that the only damage under the couch was imprints from the legs of the couch and that the large scratch was caused by him. In fact, on the video recording of him dragging the couch, you can literally hear him scratching the floor!
Mr. Cowart claims that "communications broke down" between us. What he should say is the truth - that he simply stopped responding to our attempts to contact him. His last text to us was on August 24, 2019. We contacted him 4 times after that over the course of a month. No answer. I finally had to reach out to the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection for help because he was completely ignoring us. Consumer Protection was able to get in contact with Mr. Cowart and he handed over his updated insurance information to them (the insurance policy originally provided to us had been cancelled).
Unlike what Mr. Cowart says here, his insurance DID NOT tell us we were wasting our time. The adjuster was incredibly helpful and sympathetic towards me. She told me I could either file a claim, or she could try to mediate a resolution between us. I chose the latter because she said it would be the easiest option. Thankfully, the adjuster was able to help us reach a resolution and Mr. Cowart ended paying us several hundreds of dollars.
Unfortunately, the whole ordeal lasted 5 months (damage done in August, finally got the check in January). Oh, and did I mention I was pregnant that whole time? Mr. Cowart knew that. The time in your life when you're supposed to limit stress as much as possible, I had to deal with the stress from this. All because this guy refused to take responsibility for the damage he caused - which was caught on video!
I'm uploading pictures of the damage he caused, the texts between him and my husband showing how he ignored us, and my emails with his insurance company as proof of what I'm saying. Don't believe his lies. He says he has a lot of happy customers. I used to be one of them - this was actually my second time hiring him because I liked the work he did for us before. Unfortunately, even though he does good electrical work, more importantly he's a dishonest, shady PERSON. There are a million other electricians out there - use one of them, not a guy who will damage your property and then ghost you. It's not worth the risk, trust me!
