I was very pleased with our stay at the Holiday Inn Express. We didn’t arrive in Mount Vernon until after 2:30am and the front desk person was exceptionally kind and courteous. We had a long night before and when I approached the check in desk the next morning to requested a late check out the gentleman approved it with no problems and even gave us an extra 30 minutes. Our room was very clean and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was good and everything was fresh up to the time of closing the breakfast area. My husband couldn’t eat peppers so the gentlemen that extended our late check out cooked him eggs and cheese without peppers. The eating area was very clean and there was always someone making sure the area was neat and clean. You do not find this type of courtesy in many places. I would highly recommend this Holiday Inn Express for any travelers in the Mount Vernon Il area.

I had a great experience at this Holiday Inn. Check-in was quick and staff were kind and polite. This hotel is very clean and visually appealing. My check-out was also expeditious.

I've been staying at some cheaper accommodations trying to stay under the government rate for southern Illinois. I'm not doing that anymore and I'm glad this Holiday Inn was my choice.

My room was so cozy and spacious at the same time. I loved so much about the room. The chaise lounge and side table were great! I hate sitting in a bed when it's not time to sleep.
The workstation in the room was also a nice touch. Comfy desk chair as well.
The king side bed was comfy and I slept through the night. Shout out to the awesome room darkening shade for doing it's created job!!
Nice and spacious updated bathroom. Huge walk-in shower with double glass doors and Dove showering products if you didn't/ don't bring your own. All of the linen was clean, clean smelling, and soft.

Feeling safe and being in a clean environment, along with strong wifi access, really allowed me to relax and unwind after a long day of outreach and driving.

We had a nice one night stay on our way back from Florida to Wisconsin. The room was clean and comfortable except for one thing. We room was too hot and we could not get the fan to work to cool the room down. It was running and set low but the room consistently stayed at 77-78 degrees. It seems like lately there is always something that doesn't work out with IHG hotels.

The Holiday Inn Express in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, U.S. is NOT a good representative for the Holiday Inn brand or the IHG hotel corporation.

We reserved a King room for the night of 2/28/25. As part of the reservation, we used the "special request" feature to ask for a room on the top floor away from elevators because we anticipated a very long, exhausting drive (12 hrs) and hoped for a room with the least possible amount of noise.

Upon arrival at the front desk, we were not greeted by the only desk attendant for that night. We stated that we had a reservation and gave our name. The desk attendant then tossed a room key across the desk to us. The room key indicated a first floor room, so we mentioned the top floor room request, and the desk attendant for that night replied, "There is no top floor." (The hotel actually has 3 floors, so the 3rd is the top floor.) She tossed a paper across the desk to us, with no comment or direction. It was a paper requiring an initialization from us, so we completed it and returned it to her. She never said anything else to us, not even the customary, "Enjoy your stay." So, we asked, "Is that it?" She replied, "Yep! Short and sweet."

We are well traveled, open-minded people who have no issue with the way other people present themselves in most settings. However, her clothing, hair and multitude of piercings made it seem as if she should be at home in her own living room, rather than representing a highly regarded hotel brand.

She was, in fact, the least professional desk attendant we have ever encountered in our 30+ years of traveling.

We accepted her odd behavior and check in procedure without complaint and walked toward the room. On the way, we noticed stained carpet and cracks in the walls along the side of room doors. Inside the room, we noticed more cracks and stains, as well as a very dirty smear of something on the sofa/lounger. We completed our customary search for bed bugs and, finding no evidence, prepared to sleep.

Sleep was slow to arrive due to the loud, howling, whistling noise of the wind coming through something somewhere in the room or building. We were only able to sleep because we brought our own fan for white noise.

The following morning, breakfast was the hotel's best feature and the one thing we enjoyed during our stay. IHG might want to inspect this hotel more closely.

We do NOT recommend staying in this hotel. If it had been earlier in the evening, we would have walked out immediately at the rude greeting, and gone to any other hotel in the area rather than stay at this one.

I used points to stay here and asked for a room away from the highway. They gave us room 306 which is 30 feet from highway 57, a 6 lane highway busy all night. I put in my ear plugs and we could not avoid the noise as we realized both windows were not attached to the wall, they were just hanging there. No sound proofing at all. The next morning I told the desk that we had a rough night and not to rent 306 until someone fixed the windows. She apologized and the manager went up and took pictures and called the owner who said to refund me half my points. I thanked the staff and we left without breakfast, we were so tired. I never was refunded any points. I’m very disappointed in how this sleepless night was handled and will not stay at this hotel again. That room should never have been rented in the condition it was in.

The external of the hotel is nice. The website photos look great. But my experience was poor. The room carpet and furnishings were nice and in good condition but the ceiling was falling apart and the room was clearly not cleaned well. The bathroom towels were stained, the shower had hair all over, the bathroom floor had debris, the mirror in the living area was dirty and the living carpet needed to be vacuumed. It's like it was kind of updated but not all the way and the cleaning was either missed or was just poorly executed.

Although. this hotel had friendly front desk service from night. to the morning shift on Saturday morning. The gentleman that was working in the food area should be the director of housekeeping. He was very clean. He washed his hand consistently. He was very friendly with the guest. He went above and beyond. housekeeping. me to be fired, retrained. The supervisor needs to go to some type of class to be able to check these guest rooms efficiently before putting them in the system to be sold. The rooms were horrible That was Urine, all down the back of the bathroom walls that was threw up. on the floor between the beds The headboards were horrible. The floor to the entry of the room was horrible. The refrigerator wasn't cleaned out. Check your rooms before checking in them. Horrible. I have never itched so much in my life. from my head to my feet. It's all night. I sat in the middle of the bed, afraid for anything to touch me. I did not sleep at all. I asked the front desk for extra linen to cover everything in the room. including the headboard.

We have stayed at this location many times in the past, and have had good experiences. This stay was a bit of a disappointment, though.

The room was not as clean as expected, with small amounts of debris scattered here and there on the flooring. Bathroom was OK, but it was a disappointment that there were only two sets of bath linens...which also felt worn and possibly needing replacement. The bathroom outlet was quite loose and unusable as it was difficult to plug anything in...and probably not safe to do so.

Breakfast was good, and the gentleman who was the buffet attendant kindly offered us bottled waters for our trip. Very unexpected, but very nice gesture!
