We love riding at the ridge. The trails along the actual ridge are starting to get pretty overgrown. The only reason I take away a star is because of how trashed the parking area is. People are disgusting and while I understand that there are no trash cans there... You brought the garbage with you, don't leave it there.

There isn't supposed to be any ATVs out there, as much as I would love to take mine out there again I follow the rules and only walk. The same can't be said for other people. Unfortunately, even after the state closed it off because people were being destructive (under the pretense of a wild life sanctuary) there are still some bad eggs that will go out of their way to go in with ATVs (dirt bikes). I grew up calling it "the scrubs", it's very pretty and has almost completely returned to nature. That being said, there is still tons of broken beer bottles scattered throughout the sand and trails. There's tons of spent shotgun shells everywhere along with a plethora of other types of trash. This is the reason they closed it in the first place. All of this in consideration, I still enjoyed taking the kids on an impromptu hour long walk back to Curtis Creek where I used to go as a kid. School bus road was closed so this was an okay second choice.

It's great if you have a horse and want to ride. I was looking for wildlife and didn't see any the day I visited. But it's a peaceful place. You don't hear cars, which is a miracle these days. 🙂 I enjoyed the quiet.

Supposed to be able to bike this area, but the sand is so soft you won't stand a chance... For hikers, you'll get a real workout on the sand... Lots of trash around the parking lot, not taken care of in ages...

A wonderful example of our amazing Lake Wales Ridge. There are many endangered plants and animals that are found here and nowhere else on earth.

Since Hurricane Irma in 2017 the Lake Wales Ridge Wildlife and Environmental sign is down but the parking area and trails are open. (The sign is back!) There are no bathrooms or water so come prepared.

Don't get this Tract of the LWRWE area confused with the Lake Wales Ridge National Wildlife Refuge just to the South where there is no public entrance.

Nice peaceful area with parking. Used parking as home base for a bike ride down local roadways. Only saw 3 cars on 1.5hour ride.
