We hired Nelson to do some mold remediation work due to a leak in our basement. He came out promptly and began the work a few days later. However, his crew left gaps between the drywall they installed and the baseboards. They also improperly cut the drywall so it didn’t meet the trim molding for the closet door, failed to remove the mold from the closet door, and knocked loose several window panes. When I contacted Nelson about coming back to fix up the issues, he said he “might” be able to get a crew out in a few days. He then said that none of the issues were his fault and said that his people weren’t responsible for fixing the faulty workmanship or fixing the damage to the windows. He even suggested that we might have asbestos but refused to discuss how or why that might be the case. He hasn’t responded to my follow up calls and I’m sure will not come back to my house. He also immediately cashed my $2500 check likely to avoid having to come back. His contract says that only half of your balance is due up front but he asked me to pay the whole thing. If he asks you, DO NOT PAY HIM IN FULL UP FRONT. I would never recommend hiring Nelson.

If there was a zero star selection, I would choose it. I had very high mold levels in my basement and someone referred Nelson Barnes' company to me. He gave me an extremely lengthy scope of work. He concentrated on only one corner of the basement even though I told him water had been detected behind the wall in another part of the basement. Also, I asked him to check another section of wall as the carpet tack strip showed signs of mold. That was not done. Long story short, he did a test which came back with results for only three types of mold and then said "Normal". I had it rechecked a few weeks later by a different company and mold levels were still very high. I contacted Nelson, who asked if I had put in a return vent. When I told him I hadn't done that, he no longer responded to my calls. I ended up hiring another company who did an extremely thorough job of remediating my basement. And, I might add, they charged me the same price Nelson did! My basement is now within normal levels. I do NOT recommend this company!

I had a regrettable experience with Nelson. He came for an initial inspection and he pressured me to sign him a $1200 check. Upon receiving the money he sent a receipt that did not capture the work he said verbally that it would entail. Post payment I never received the air analysis report until months later and following repeated requests. Once I prompted him to complete the work as he had said, he was quick to point to the invoice issue after receipt of payment that failed to declared the full scope of work, claiming I would owe more money. Do not be fooled by the appearance, the man is not trustworthy.

I am very pleased with the job Nelson Barnes Jr and his company Maryland Environmental Systems & Solutions have done with the drywall in my home. They did an AMAZING job and were VERY NEAT and CLEAN. I would most defiantly use them again to fix things in the house. The crew was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure everything was clean they vacuumed up behind themselves and thought out the house and wiped and mopped up behind themselves. They arrived on time and started cleaning the mold properly and in a timely fashion and putting the drywall back up. Also because of the smell of the cleaning solution the Forman Ronnie was very nice and brought us masks to wear. Again they are a PHENOMENAL company and I think that the board should let them come back and fix other properties if needed.

I hired Nelson in July to do mold remediation on our house. What they used as a service contract was really vague, and when I asked for an itemization of how much individual parts would cost, he wouldn't tell me. They were hired, in part, to "remove visible mold" and they didn't do a thorough job, missing 2 contractor bags full of moldy insulation in plain sight on one of the walls (see pics). He has been unresponsive to my multiple calls, texts, and emails asking for him to fix the issue. Even the moldy smell in our basement didn't change after treatment. I wasted 3K on this guy. Don't make the same mistake--this company is a sham.
