Checkin was efficient and friendly, even with an early arrival. My room in the Gambel Oak building was spacious, clean, and had a nice outdoor sitting area facing trees. Bed was comfortable, good shower and fridge, as well as coffee and tea. Location was 10 minutes easy walk max from the rim. ||My only issue, partly my fault, was housekeeping walking in to my room while I was showering. They quickly left, when they realized I was still there. I panicked a bit when I saw the door open, because I didn’t hear them speak up; I thought someone was breaking in! And it was only 8am!! I should have put the do not disturb sign out, and bolted the door. So if you stay there, keep the dnd sign on and door bolted until you leave. ||Price varies significantly depending on demand. I paid $350- way too much for what is just a decent motel.

This beautiful complex, set in the middle of the forest at only a few hundred meters fron the actual Canyon rim, gave us a blissful stay. We had 2 rooms in the north complex, Mesquite building. The rooms were large, comfy, basic but fairly clean, with excellent beds. We really appreciated the minimal artificial lightning all around the complex, that allows to enjoy the night sky and the night wildlife, that remains undisturbed. Walking around the resort is very easy and delightful thanks to the outstanding flora and fauna. The Maswik food court provides good food at fair prices. The shuttle buses services all around the village and the whole park is excellent, and the stops are very close to the lodge. The staff is kind and welcoming. The overall experience is just great: I would come back any time... if only I could!!

Enjoyable time in the canyon, this one is the furthest away from the canyon of all three places to stay. But there are shuttles and it is not a long walk to the canyon. It has a kennel and one of the world's best fudge shop. I would stay here again totally enjoyed it.

Great location for exploring the South Rim of the Grand Canyon! Of course you pay for that convenience! Room was nice, and despite the recent water line issues, everything seemed to be fine (no 'wat3er conservation' warnings or signs).|Reading others' reviews, I am confused - there is no 'maid service' (fresh towels, etc) when you are staying multiple nights, unless requested. There is also no 'included breakfast' - food is at the Food Court at the Maswick Lodge, and there are minimal choices, and its very basic - I had one breakfast there, and one dinner. I had dinner at the Fred Harvey Tavern at the El Tovar one night - decent fish and chips with a friendly bartender!

If you are looking to spend the night visiting the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the Maswik Lodge is one place to consider. While it is not right on the rim's edge, it is really close. For the location, the room price is better than some other options. The lodge and all it's rooms/cabins are literally only about a five minute walk to the South Rim and Grand Canyon Village. The main lodge building has a pizza pub where you can take a load off your feet and enjoy what they have to offer. It also has a food court with plenty of seating where you can purchase an array of different food items.

Hard to complain about a lodge at the Grand Canyon!

But I must.

Front desk staff was testy and poorly informed. When the staff member informed us that out room would not be ready at the appointed time -- you might expect courtesy at the very least.

Nope.

Testy and rude.

When I called the front desk about getting a bottle of wine for our room -- I was told "No... we can't do that... you would have to drive several miles to a beverage store" (we had no car).

When I spoke to the bar tender the next evening, he scrunched up his face and said "What are they talking about? Of course you can take a bottle of wine to your room...!"

It would seem that a minimal expectation would be a courteous and informed front desk.

Nope.

The lodges are VERY inviting! They are close to the canyon rim... just a short five minute walk away. The lodge I stayed in ("Shasta") was apparently updated in the past 2-3 years (?), thus making them attractive, comfortable, and user friendly. Parking is close to the lodge. The cost is higher than I anticipated. Yet if you look on various Internet sites, you can find different prices for the same room. We saved over $200 by scanning other sites. I strongly recommend this! Still, the price is high, but the close proximity is worth it.

Excellent choice for my partner and I staying in the canyon. Would definitely return if we visit again.

Pros - the new rooms are very nice. Bed was comfortable, room was quiet, and the whole place was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Biggest plus is you're right in the park on the rim, so you're within walking distance of many hikes and sunrises / sunsets.

Cons - the food is very expensive, which was not surprising, but still maybe one of the most expensive pizzas I've had in my travels. Our AC also made a weird clicking noise that would've bothered us more if we weren't exhausted from our day hikes.
