It's really a great place to live! The rent is very reasonable. The environment around the apartment is safe, comfortable, and convenient. There are many restaurants, bus stops, and supermarkets in walking distance. Around 5-10 minutes to the University of Chicago and 20-30 minutes to downtown by bus. In addition, the manager is very friendly, helpful, and hard-working. He is always available for help. Really appreciate his help 🙂 I truly enjoy living here!

I have lived in the building for more than 2 years. Building is in a great location, close to everything and University. It's a beautiful historic building, very well maintained. They are many students living in a building. This is family own building and everybody is always very nice. The apartments are really nice, spacious and many of them have a great lake view. The building is very affordable and the rent includes all utilities so the tenant don't have to worry about paying their water, electric, heat or gas bills. I love living in the building and never have any issues. There is very friendly atmosphere in the building and many tenants live there for long time. The building is fully occupied and it feels always safe. I would recommend it to all University of Chicago students, since it's a great place to meet a lot of nice people and being close to transportation, shops and University.

The location is extremely great in terms of the connection to everything on Hyde Park and even downtown. Located in this peaceful and safe neighborhood, the rent is also very affordable for students and visiting scholars. The building itself is not new, but rooms are refurbished well. The staff is also willing to help us deal with other maintenance issue. To me it's a good place to stay!

Lived here for a year while doing my graduate degree. Manager is very friendly and helpful. Not a luxury building but price is really good compared to nearby locations. An ideal choice for people studying/working at the University of Chicago. Also haven't got any safety concerns during my stay here.

So this place is not only super affordable, but there's no catch.

The management responds to any issues I have the same day. The utilities work great, best water pressure I've had in Chicago so far. The other tenants are friendly and courteous.

I would absolutely recommend apartment hunters stop by this building and take a tour! Your hunt might be over sooner than you think!

When reading these reviews it's important to remember that the management is not able to review the tenant.
I love living at the Poinsetta. The manager and the owner have been very responsive; during a recent illness of mine the manager went way out of his way to help me. He made sure I was ok and had what I needed. The other tenants are a diverse mix of students-to-retirees and I met no one in the building whom I did not enjoy, with the exception of some of the complainants on this site.
The building is old and beautiful and is gradually being updated without destroying its history. The price is the lowest I found in Hyde Park and the experience of living here has been wonderful but if you want the amenities and concierge-like service of a brand new $1800 per month apartment, you may be unhappy here. But if you enjoy life, you will enjoy the experience of living here.

It is a huge apartment for one bed and one bath in South Hyde Park area. I can see the lake from my living room too. the price is include gas and electricity. My apartment got a new paint and new kitchen with a huge sink. (I love the polished granite countertops and modern faucet a lot). the manager here is so nice, friendly and helpful. i recommend this place

This is a nice Spanish colonial revival-styled building that has a touch of hyde park history. Affordable prices for studios and one-bedrooms, utilities included in the rent. The building manager is friendly and responsive. I lived there for a year and felt cozy.
