I graduated from this school over 20 years ago. It was a school where the faculty and parents worked closely together to guarantee the success of each student. I am saddened to see the bad reviews about Ms.Weems. She is a sincere educator who was tough, yes, but also overly prepared me for the new challenges I would face going into High School. To this day she has left an imprint on me. I entered my freshman year of high school reading and comprehending on a College Sophomore Level and was placed in the Honors Program and it is thanks to the community/education I received at this school.

I share a great experience with the teachers and staff in this school. I love that the parents and staff are involved in making sure their children are following directions. The idea of having a strict policy in attendance and uniforms is fantastic, but the amazing support for your child to excels is even better. My daughter came with an IEP, and difficulty with many subjects. Now she is not needing so much speech therapy, reading on her on two grades above, and just having her teachers and the other staff love her as her own makes me happy. My suggestions to parents let’s stick together always, at the end of the day we make the school and the school makes and molds are children it is also our responsibility.

I am certain that this is a great school for our Bronx students. The interior is beautifully designed, and the students seem to be happy. They must have a dedicated teaching staff. It's ironic that a school named for environmental learning has such an impact on the neighborhood environment. The school buses take up all the parking on Andrews Avenue North during school times and create a huge traffic back up on Loring Place North with lots of horns honking on Loring Place North and West 183rd Street in the morning and afternoon. When the school was first constructed there was a long area of grass on Loring Place North that bordered the school building and due to the way the school garbage was dispossessed at that time, there were rats running all over the sidewalk during the night. I complained to the Dept. of Sanitation, and they made the school cover the grassy area with wire mesh and concrete, which alleviated the rat infestation. In addition, the schools garbage disposable area on Loring Place North is often left with garbage all over the sidewalk, and the street after sanitation picks up the trash. The custodial staff does their best to keep it clean, but on the weekends when no staff is available it is a garbage strewn mess that the neighborhood has to endure until school is in session the following Monday. Oh well... so much for "environment studies." At least there is a nice pretty school building for our children. I hope that the students are learning about how to improve the environment when they grow up.

This school sucks DO NOT send your child here. The principal of the school is HORRIBLE. And VERY sexist, mainly when it comes to dress code. My daughter once wear shorts to school that were right above her knee and got written up. However the next day I saw many young men wearing shorts more higher then hers and my daughter told me none of them got in any problem even though the dress code is meant to go BOTH WAYS😡. I have also heard how the principal let a kid with a learning disability have a SEIZURE and DID NOTHING!!! I have also had to deal with poor playing and managing in there end because for some reason they give slips for trips that cost money the day before the trip Overall Ms sobe does not know how to run things here. The kids may look happy on the outside when really they themselves have many complaints that are never heard, we need Ms SOBE OUT. I am tired of her not doing her job correctly and planing things right before stuff happens with no care and effort. The school has potential but with Ms sobe running things here it’s going down the DRAIN.
