I really based my decision to go with RED Solar on these reviews. And overall, I saw positive reviews from prior customers so I thought I would similarly have a good experience. My job wasn't particularly different from a typical home. I own a 1,100 Square foot property that needed about 30/31 solar panels to cover my annual usage. After shopping around and getting various quotes, it seemed Red Solar offered the better deal. But I was leerly of getting a good price for a bad installation experience, so I depended on these reviews, especially seeing how my rep, Faustino was specifically was cited positively. I moved forward on April 24 2024, offically paying for installation. I was informed with high certainly by August of this year I would have permits approved, installation completed, and have my net metering turned on FPL by August 2024. In other words, in 4 months, max, I would be 100% done and have working solar panel system in my home.
As of the time of this writing I have none of this. It's been a exhausting experience.
1. The permitting, which I was quoted 3-6 weeks, went on 9 weeks. Difficult city hall? Maybe, but it doesnt help that after the 6th week I go to city hall and check on the permit, they hadnt filed a response to the city in over 3 weeks. So my permiting could have taken longer if I hadn't gotten up to inquiry on my behalf, and inform them whoever was handing permitting hand not done any work on my case.
2. So after 9 weeks, we got initial approval of the permit. During the installation, the city inspector comes by and informs me that these guys actually applied the permit identifying my roof as a metal roof (I have a shingle roof) and the inspection would have to be failed and they would have to go and revise the permit. 9 weeks, and the permit they filed was utterly wrong and required them to go BACK and refile again through revision. Mind you we are already in late August at that time.
3. So we are waiting on revision, which I was promised would happen right away. Their engineering team would be right on it, and they'd work to get it resolved asap. I said fine, I'll wait. While waiting, I requested they finish the solar panel installation, which at this point had framing stick out over the roof. It took them literally 4 weeks to get their crew back out there to fix the framing (I'll attach photos if google lets me).
4. I am updated by Red Solar that my file is in revision with the city and they are waiting to hear back. Something in my gut told me, go to city hall and verify this. So I go yesterday 9/25, to get a status directly. You won't believe this. The permit hadn't been touched since it failed in late August. That is 30 days ago, and no revision had actually ever been sent.
So I am thus far entering my 6 month. I do not have an approved permit. My installation remains incomplete because we cannot move on to the next step where FPL can update my meter. And I have no idea where this ordeal be over. -- If and when this is finally resolved, I'll gladly come back here and provide and update. But I just wanted to get my current experience out to the public, because I really do depend on these first hand experiences shared, and if I had read someone being treated like I have been currently, I would not have chosen this business as my solar installer. Buyer be aware.
Edit #1 - 1 Month after initial review.
Still no update from Red Solar concerning the permitting & no progress.
Edit #2 - Almost 3 months after review, & only due to my direct intervention w/ the actual permit holding company did we get progress. After Permiting was final closed w/ my city, the sage cont'd, as my system would not produce power. It was a Tesla Inverter system, & despite following the apps instruction on setup, nada. Calling Tesla solar, they informed me that the system was improperly commissioned. Two weeks had gone by & no one from Red Solar had come by to investigate the issue. Another company, (actually Tesla Certified...) got my system online at heavy additional cost.
