Italian Pie

Rock Springs Café is an unforgettable stop along the I-17, offering a variety of meals and their famous pie shakes. With nearly a century of history, this café has built a reputation not just for pies but also for comfort food that hits the spot—like their meatloaf and beef liver. The meatloaf is hearty and flavorful, providing that classic homestyle taste perfect for a road trip stop.

One of the real highlights is the pie shake experience. You get to mix and match your favorite pie with ice cream to create a shake as unique as your cravings. Depending on the pie you choose—whether it’s banana cream, chocolate silk, or pecan—the texture varies, from silky smooth to satisfyingly chunky. It’s a fun way to experiment and indulge all at once!

The warm service, general store, and rustic vibe only add to the charm. Whether you go for the savory meatloaf or the sweet decadence of a pie shake, Rock Springs Café is a must-visit destination.

Pros: The Cherry crumble pie was decent. The gift shop was okay. It has salt water taffy, fudge, jarred stuff and ice cream. The servers were friendly.

Cons: The food was not good. The bathrooms are AWFUL. A soft drink is over $4.

Small hole in the wall but so worth it. Place is a little rundown and the bathroom setup was a bit weird and crowded with storage. We did wait a little while for our food but it was so worth it when we got it. Food was fresh and delicious! The hot sauces they sell are delicious but some are way too spicy so be careful. The only thing I did not like was the water and the coffee. We will be back to try the lunch menu next time.

I recently visited Rock Springs Restaurant in Black Canyon City and had a very disappointing experience. Despite arriving when the restaurant was nearly empty, with only two other couples present, we were completely ignored by the first waitress on the floor. She never greeted us or even looked in our direction the entire time we were there.
To make matters worse, three groups who arrived after us were served their food before us. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food, and it was clear that the kitchen wasn’t busy. It felt like we were receiving different treatment compared to the other guests, which was particularly disheartening as we were the only people of color in the establishment.
The waitstaff kept disappearing into the room in the back for lengths of time, and the only attentive service we received was from the busboy who kindly refilled our drinks without us having to ask. The food itself was just decent, reminiscent of something you’d get at a Denny’s—definitely not worthy of the social media hype. As for the pies, they aren’t worth the travel either.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I wouldn’t recommend Rock Springs Restaurant to anyone looking for good service or exceptional food.

Came here on a friends recommendation who grew up in Phoenix and I was not disappointed. It was in a rustic old building and we both had pies. My wife had the blueberry pie and I had a fabulous Tennessee lemon cake amazing. Well worth a stop in such a funky place. Even the bathroom was funky.

This has to be one of the most overrated, over priced, disappointing eating establishments I’ve ever visited. Really, the only positive thing I can say is that the pie was pretty decent, but at $7.00 a slice and $26.00 for a whole pie, just not worth it. Want a stale cup of coffee with that pie? $4.25. The regular food wasn’t very good and severely overpriced too. Want to add cheese to your $16. burger? Add $2.00. Green Chilis? Add two more dollars. Our waitress was slow and not particularly friendly. While I was in the bathroom, an employee came out of the stall and walked out without washing his hands. ? This place was just all around bad. I’m all for paying for the “experience” that some venues offer or superior food or service, but this place doesn’t offer any of that. I have no idea how it is rated 4+⭐️! I do not recommend this place…. at all.

I always enjoy coming here for the pies and jams. The food is good and the service was great!

9/2024. Update- Came back again for breakfast, and was not disappointed. This place is a hidden gem. I walked over to the farmers market and picked up locally sourced honey. What a treat!

I came here for the pies and they did not disappoint. Everyone had a slice while we were there and took a couple whole pies to go. Love the historical feel of the entire place. The service was mostly nice and there’s a lot to see and explore a little. Nice little stop along the way while traveling back and forth between Phoenix and Flagstaff. I could see myself swinging in again. Maybe I’ll try the restaurant next time, the food looked pretty good just walking past the tables.
