This location used to be a County Market years ago. Now it’s a partial grocery store and partial resale store. A lot of people like this store but I’m confused why some of the groceries are so expensive here when it’s supposed to be like a safe haven for people experiencing poverty.

Yes prices are rising everywhere nowadays but check out the prices on the photos I posted here. Over $9 for some peppers? 🫑

Not the store’s fault but people steal carts from this store often (see photo)

But thank you to Salt and Light for being a place with food in this region of Urbana that is considered a “food desert”

Will not donate here again. I have donated for years and today I am told that don’t take desks. It was in good condition, just normal wear and tear. The thing that bothered me the most was the next car in line had a desk and they took it. Not bragging but mine looked much nicer than the one they took. That being said not sure of the real reason they didn’t take it. I just took it to Goodwill in Champaign and they took it and all of my Rae Dunn items as well.

Didn’t see that…

This place has such a variety of merchandise and at affordable prices. Not only it helps so many people with getting back on their feet.
We make it a point to donate anything and everything here and not other places.

visited for the first time and the cashier saw us, then left and was wandering without caring that we were standing waiting. Then, i handed him a slip to pay for some jewelry, and he simply said “nah i don’t want to do that” and didn’t go and get the jewelry for us to pay so we didn’t get it? It was very strange and uncomfortable.

I have been a loyal customer of S&L for 6 months. I always find hidden gems here. The shopping environment is welcome, clean, friendly, and comfortable. I just applied to be a volunteer member and started my first day yesterday. It was really beyond my expectation. Everyone is so kind and patient, from BOD to staff members and other volunteers. Highly recommend this place for either shopping or volunteering.

I go into s&l almost weekly for a little thrifting. It can be a bit disorganized, but most thrift stores are. They do a really great job with keeping up on getting new stuff out throughout the day, and it’s typically priced fairly IMO. For a good cause, to boot. Check it out!

I believe this organization does good for SE Urbana, but the thrift fundraising arm of the organization needs operational work. The staff that take donations are rude, and the retail side is even worse. I've had a few interesting interactions over the years where I smile and accept the attitude as a side effect of the staff dealing with a difficult environment. Today, an item that was untagged was ripped from my hands at the register and I was accused of removing the tag. The manager grabbed it and ran when I asked about the policy. It definitely ruins the fun of donating and vintage hunting when you have to deal with bad attitudes. Again, a great mission, but if you're dealing with the thrift arm, be prepared for an experience.
