After choosing a rooftop-mounted solar system, I researched panel options and chose REC panels. Sky NRG Solar appeared on REC's site as a certified installer, so I added them to my list of prospective providers. Megan from Sky NRG provided a detailed quote and patiently answered my many questions about the different REC panels on the market. I ultimately chose Sky NRG based on my interaction with her and positive reviews on Google and Reddit. I also preferred a local installer in Northern Virginia, and Sky NRG fit that requirement perfectly. We signed the contract on July 26, and the panels were installed on September 10.

Megan handled the HOA permissions, and the installation was completed ahead of schedule when Sky NRG found an opening that suited me. Juan and his team managed the installation with careful attention to the aesthetics of the panel placement. Robert, Sky NRG's CEO, was present during the installation, underscoring their commitment to customer satisfaction. We discovered issues with my existing electrical panel during the process, and Robert recommended replacing it. Based on the quality of work by Juan and the overall experience with Sky NRG, I opted to have them handle the panel replacement rather than seeking other bids. Juan completed the job, and I'm pleased with the result.

We received Permission To Operate (PTO) from Dominion Energy on October 28, and since then, we've been consistently exporting energy to the grid.

I'm delighted with Sky NRG. They never tried to upsell, were always responsive to my questions, and offered a competitive price lower than other bids. Megan and Robert continue to stay involved, and I am confident about their prompt attention to address any future issues.

Highly recommended!

We highly recommend Sky NRG Solar for your solar project! After reviewing several installers within the DMV area, we decided to go with them, and we could not be happier with our experience working with them on our project.

Our unique challenge was finding a solar installer willing to incorporate a home battery backup system, a task many shy away from due to its complexity. After evaluating several installers, Sky NRG Solar stood out as the only one capable of addressing our technical queries and proposing a cost-effective solution. We owe our decision to Megan Waters, Sky NRG's Vice President of Business Development, who won us over with her expertise.

What also impressed us with Sky NRG was their crew. All were company employees, and we met them during our initial site review and throughout the installation process. They were all easy to work with and professional, especially Juan, their head electrician, who kept us up-to-date throughout the process. We also really appreciate the owner, Robert Mudry, and Megan dropping by during the initial site review and installation to see how things were going.

Regarding what we had installed, we wanted backup batteries since we occasionally experience power outages (solar alone will not provide you power during an outage, FYI). We anticipate more outages as the weather becomes more volatile due to climate change, especially since we have a lot of old-growth trees in our neighborhood. We went with the Enphase IQ system in order to have a seamless (only one app) and instantaneous backup system, which included 3 Enphase 5P batteries (total of 15kWh) along with their supporting models (Enphase Controller, Combiner, and microinverters). Sky NRG wired it for whole-house backup with a load-shedding module that automatically shuts off up to four circuits/electrical appliances (e.g., air conditioning, dryer, EV charger, etc.), which meant we did not need to add a sub-panel. The load-shedding module was the item that sold us with Sky NRG since no other solar installer mentioned that as an option. Other installers would push for a SPAM (smart) electrical panel, which can be expensive and was not something we needed. That said, SkyNRG does install SPAM panels, which might be the right choice for your situation. Based on what could fit on our south-facing roof, we went with 22 REC panels (~9kW) for solar panels.

Our experience with Sky NRG Solar was nothing short of exceptional. Their professionalism, organization, and meticulous attention to detail make them our top recommendation for any solar project, especially those involving battery installation.

Last year I was walking my dog in a neighborhood close to my house and I noticed that a new neighbor had installed solar panels on her roof. She happened to be working in her front yard when I stopped her to ask about the solar panels. She took the time to explain why she decided to go with solar power and that the president of her solar company lived in the same neighborhood. I was impressed with what she said and she gave me the contact information for SkyNRG Solar Systems.
I got online that day and did lots of research on solar energy in Virginia. I also contacted Robert Mudry to inquire about the cost and benefits of solar power. The next day Robert called me for a quick chat on the phone then walked over to meet and talk to me about solar power. Because I didn’t plan to move my family any time soon the plan he outlined with the cost vs. benefits plus federal credits seemed like a reasonable choice for my situation. We looked over my current electric and gas use and discussed several options.
After connecting with my Homeowners Association to confirm there wouldn’t be any negative repercussions and speaking with several neighbors, my family chose to hire SkyNRG to start our Solar Power adventure.
We met again with Robert and his assistant Megan to order the supplies, provide a down payment and make a plan of action to get started with this project. It took a few months for the panels to arrive but once we received them Robert’s team wasted no time scheduling the installation. It was a pleasant surprise to see the amount of professionalism and care his team took to respect my family’s home, keep me informed on current activities, and communicating next steps. The assembly and installation only took 3 days.
After the installation Megan and the SkyNRG office kept me on track with paperwork and inspections for updating the electric meter connecting us to the power grid with Dominion Power and setting up the SolarEdge phone apps to monitor solar energy use at my home.
A few months later I was contacted by Gina who notified me that by enrolling in the SREC (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates) program we can earn credits when we generate enough solar power which can be sold.
Even later in the year when we had siding replacement and chimney repairs at my house, SkyNRG came back to temporarily remove a few panels to allow for more roof space to work on that construction. A few days later they were re-installed and solar power at my home was back to normal.
My system is remotely monitored by SkyNRG and again I’ve been impressed with occasional calls or emails letting me know that my home network went offline due to power outages or home routers or access points going bad.
It has now been a year since our home solar power installation with SkyNRG and our system accounts for roughly 70% of our total household electricity (more in the Spring & Summer vs. Fall & Winter). It will pay for itself in less than 10 years and we feel like we are helping to save Earth.
If you are considering solar power as an energy source at your home, I encourage you to have a conversation with Robert, Megan, or Gina at SkyNRg.

Sincerely,
Mark Wilson

We just had an excellent experience with skyNRG Solar, installing solar panels to provide all our electricity. The owner, Robert Mudry, was very helpful in explaining each part of the process as we went along, and his guys were super-efficient in getting the panels installed. And this extended all the way through getting Dominion approval.

Just a couple of notes before I provide the details of the costs and expected savings.
Several states [eg. CA] have already removed net metering provisions. Which means new installations in their states will NOT be eligible to sell their excess electric generation back to the utility, reducing the payback [already installed systems have been grandfathered]. VA has not yet adopted this position, but is said to be considering. Point being, that you may want to consider solar sooner, rather than later if you are thinking you might want to go this route.
Current Federal administration seems to be headed toward reducing all benefits from non-oil energy savings. This has two implications: 1) it is not impossible to conceive that the current Federal government might do all it can to remove the 30% tax credit; and 2) there are a lot of people out there right now offering solar in a variety of schemes - BUT with all the tumult in this field, it is expected that their ranks might be thinning. Therefore if you do choose to go ahead, try to choose a firm more likely to be around to honor their guarantees.

Now the numbers: our house is a bit over 2,300 sq ft and we have a gas boiler providing part of our heating system. The size of your solar array will depend on your electric bills. Our electric bill averaged $126/mo over the last 33 months. Depending on roof orientation and shading, some homes do better than others. This impacts the payback time, some homes approach 7.5 yrs payback time, some are at over 11 yrs. Our house was not the best, thus the 10 yr payback.

We had a great experience with Sky NRG and couldn't ask for more. They had great communication on the expected timeline and necessary steps, worked with us to design a solar system that worked best for our home, and helped us identify quality roofing and tree-trimming companies to get the most bang for our buck. We love our panels and the real-time monitoring app. Highly recommend!

Sky NRG Solar was an excellent choice for solar at my home in Vienna. Rob was great to work with and explained to me the different options I had in installing solar in my home. His company was able to get to my project quickly and complete the onsite work in only two days. Highly recommend their service to my neighbors and appreciate the high level of service they were able to give both before and after the install. Thank you Rob.

I did a TON of research into solar energy companies in the DC metro area, and this one truly deserves top marks. We had several door-to-door solar "sales" people walk through our neighborhood pushing way more expensive systems, and we are very happy we didn't go with those other companies. SkyNRG had the most competitive pricing, and they are very professional in guiding homeowners through the entire process. They are not just salesmen and they actually care about their design and installation (and your home). They were flexible with timing and talked us through all of the benefits of installing solar. Other companies tried to have competitive pricing, but then they nickel-and-dimed everything on top of the contract. Rob made it clear from the start that SkyNRG won't do that, and they were right. Their price in their quote was the price we paid, even with some add-ons that I requested. They also let me decide where the inverter was going to go in my house, and even gave me information on car chargers that we can install later when we decide to get an EV. If you are even just considering solar, reach out to them early. I don't feel like they ever really pressured me at all when I was still talking with other companies, and I couldn't be happier with the final results. If you contact them, be sure to ask about SRECs and the Fed tax credit, which can really cut down on the cost to pay off the investment.
