There is a dog tied to a tree with a plastic dog house with an 8 ft chain. No one is living there. The yard has not been cut in months. Every now and then someone shows up with water and dry food. Several of us neighbors have had to unravel the Chain and feed and water. I called and complained and it took a week for them to go to the house and did not even go to the dog area. Just hung the card on the front door. Says they have 48 hours to respond. It's been 4 days and now it's the weekend. The card is still on the door. No one has been to water and feed the dog in a couple days. What is going on in this department that is supposed to help these poor animals. Who is the director that obviously do not know what their officers are doing or do they?

Me and my neighbors have called animal control Several times the past three years of living in here. They NEVER come out and do their job! Dog after dog put on chains. They are all under weight with no food or water . Their shelter is a plastic chewed up dog house flipped over! They literally breed these dogs just to make money and then Starve them and let them DIE! Spartanburg County needs to do something!! I call 911 and they even 3 wasted animal control and they still didn’t come out ! So much for trying to help animals that are being Neglected !

I’m reading some of these reviews and now understand why our experience with the AC office in Spartanburg was so dismal. We complained about a neighbor abusing their pets and neglecting them in extreme weather conditions. The officer actually came to our house to direct us to stop intervening because that would discourage the animals from seeking food and shelter.

Unbelievably they sided with the abusive family. The abuse continues with this family breeding and then abandoning pets in the neighborhood.

Will not pick up stray dogs that I have called about several times. They keep saying they are not picking up strays at this time. What are we paying county taxes for if the county will not do what it is supposed to do. Shut them down it’s a waste of taxpayers money just to have them all sitting behind desk

Ive called multiple times over the 9 years ive been here in Spartanburg County. Ive had no issues with them coming out and they always pick up the strays or lost pets that I have caught. The only downside is the laws they have to follow. Ive complained about my old neighbor who used to let her dog run freely and its killed a lot of my livestock I had. I would get into screaming matches with her over her animals to no avail. Spartanburg County always came out to make a report, but the laws are that I have to go to court as witness to her being fined. After the 3rd time of going to court, ive given up and moved down the street. She still lets her dog roam around and she still is out.

Spartanburg County animal control doesnt have many officers and the county is pretty big. You may have to call multiple times and pay a "rehoming" fee but if it benefits the animal, then why not keep trying?

I am so frustrated with Spartanburg Animal Control. I have called numerous times about people letting a pack of dogs roam around our area. The dogs have killed some of my chickens, almost caused car accidents, and have all around just been a complete nuisance. Still, after repeatedly calling, the dogs continue to roam around. While we did catch one several months ago and they were quick to come pick that dog up, I just tried having another stray dog picked up and they claimed they have no more kennel space due to a parvo outbreak.
There is also a waiting list for dog traps. So, I have to let the stray dogs free which will be back to harass my livestock in a few days.
How much of my tax money is going to this department when there are so little resources they provide It is very frustrating and I feel that for the most part animal control in Spartanburg County is absolutely useless.

i have been reporting the abuse and neglect of the neighbor behind me dogs for over a year now, each time i am told someone will come out and they NEVER do ! This is the most incompetent environmental service department i have ever experienced.

i called about a woman who was sometimes camping behind a neighbor's home, with 2 large dogs and 3 cats, requesting a welfare check on her animals. she had been sleeping in the local Walmart parking lot with 5 animals in a small SUV.
i originally posted an unflattering review that was not deserved. A control officer did make a check after a few days and has my thanks. i think the bigger problem with the response reviews is the lack of resources and personnel, and that because county planners may not have considered the number of pets coming along with the massive influx of new residents in the county and city. i would like to see more funding for animal control.
