The installation crew was punctual, respectful, and worked efficiently to get everything up and running in no time. I appreciated their attention to detail, as they made sure that every aspect of the installation was done correctly and neatly.

This review is an update to an initial positive review I had originally posted in September 2022 on Yelp for Sunwave Energy when I first contracted with Sunwave for a solar install. The initial install went fine. But when my solar panels went dark in January of 2024, I called Jose Alvarez, owner of Sunwave, to assist me in getting the system back up and running. Jose informed me that the installer, Penguin, had gone out of business and that my system was not ever under warranty with Sunwave because he acts as the broker for these companies. He assured me his Technician, Jeff Spitzer, would fix my system at a modest price.

Because I trusted Jose and this company, I went forward with Sunwave technician Jeff Spitzer, and this is where my problem really began. I was charged $1,200 to do a rewire and SolarEdge converter replacement. After two months and 4 separate visits by Jeff Spitzer, my system was not fixed. Each time Jeff Spitzer came to my house, he assured me he knew what he was doing and would have my system fixed in an hour. Jose Alvarez also visited my home on one of these occasions, but he does not understand the electrical aspects of solar and was also unable to assist me.

I eventually went with a professional company here in Sacramento, Capital City Solar, which promptly troubleshooted and fixed my issue and cost me $1,350. They determined that Sunwave Technician Jeff Spitzer most likely damaged my wires when he attempted to fix the problem. He damaged the homeruns when he pulled them out, and he did not put in new wires, which is what he told me was included in his price. He put the old wires back in, heavily damaged, and left the grounding lug disconnected at the roof JBox and all the bonding lugs disconnected at all the fittings.

Due to Sunwave's lack of expertise and follow through, my home was left in a dangerous state and potentially a fire hazard when the Sunwave team disconnected the grounding wire on the roof while the system was still running. Additionally, Sunwave and Jeff Spitzer conducted himself unprofessionally, yelling on the phone at Solar Edge technicians when he blamed them for the problem he created, and he yelled at me over the phone when I let Sunwave know that I got a second opinion and that they were wrong about just about everything pertaining to my solar panels. Sunwave also took my original inverter and communications panel, which were all still in working condition and no doubt are worth more than what they charged me.

In summary, I made a devastating and costly choice by doing business with this company, and I literally paid the price. Don't do the same. Stay away from this company at all costs. I will be taking Sunwave to court in an effort to get my money back. -Kevin

When my wife and I started shopping around for solar for our home in Rio Linda, we knew we had found the right company to do this for us! We met with Dave Hanson and we were thrilled when he showed us the money we would be saving by choosing Sunwave Energy. They did have to remove a pre-existing system that wasn't working that came with the home. But they upgraded us to the best technology. The reason we went with the folks at Sunwave was due to pricing and the fast response we got from them anytime we reached out. I take a lot of pride in the work I do and they handled me and my family like we mattered! There were no gimmicky salespeople and we enjoyed working with Dave along with the CEO Jose Alvarez. I recommend them for any Solar/Electrical needs!

Sunwave is not a solar company. Jose is a salesman who contracted out our business to Penguin Solar who had no idea how to install solar panels. Penguin went out of business and now we do not have a warranty on our roof. We have been left with broken tiles on our roof and dented gutters. Our panels also never worked liked promise after 8 months of installation and we have had to pay PG&E over $700 even though we have solar. We also have a tru-up of $500. Jose will not take responsibility for any of this and he stated himself that he is not liable. He did us “a favor” and called out his workers to patch some of tiles and get our panels actually working. We are still left with a possible roof leak, panels with hanging electrical, dented gutters, and no warranty. We will be taking legal action. Run far away from away from this salesman.

Response time was fantastic ! Not only did Jeff Spitzer fix our problem but fixed it within an hour of arrival. The solar company that had installed our solar went out of business several years ago. Needless to say, with the fast and efficient response from Sun Wave Energy they are now our "Go To" Solar company and we highly recommend this company to anyone that is considering Solar for their home.

I had solar installed for my home several months ago after finding Sunwave Energy on Google. I decided to wait a few months before posting a review so I could get a strong understanding of the level of financial savings I would experience over several months time. I have to say, I am so happy with my decision and my savings even slightly exceeded what my projected savings had been. When I began shopping for solar I was pretty new to the concept and really needed to work with a company who was willing to educate me and walk me through the entire process. I contacted three companies and received consults/quotes from each of them. I worked directly with the owner of Sunwave, Jose Alvarez. He was knowledgeable, professional and detail-oriented and he clearly enjoys what he does. That was a huge determining factor for me in making my purchasing decision. I also found his price to be very competitive in comparison to the other estimates I received. I am very happy with my decision to give this locally-owned business my support. I would highly recommend considering them for your solar project.

Finally, a company that services its customers like its future depends on it. My interactions with everyone at the company went very well. I felt like my questions were answered with REAL answers, these guys pull the curtain back on the solar industry and really show you the real deal. Great company, great team. I will continue to recommend these guys to my friends and family.
