Florida has done an excellent job with their parks system.
Werner Boyce Salt Springs State Park is not a great example though.
The park maintenance is minimal, and many structures including a bridge are damaged and out of service, and have been for months, the bridge a couple of years.
This is too bad, it seems the park is underfunded.
Maybe it’s because of the class of park.
Other State Parks like Starkey are well maintained.
Anyway, this park is very accessible, off US19, and does have some peaceful walking trails, some along intercostal waterways.
The washroom facilities are very nice, and there are kayak rentals as well.
The park was free of charge but there is an honour system fee now, payable on-line.
So, this park could be so much more, but still not bad!

Excellent park and paddle. Also love the easy access to see the stilt houses from my kayak and visit Duney Key.

Beautiful park right in the middle of the city. Nice getaway for walking, biking, or kayaking. The park also offers mobile birding stands.

I went to the main entrance at 8737 US 19 for hiking. I started with the eagle trail, which was very short. I went to the main trail hiking trail (dirt). Everything was well maintained and labeled. A couple of the bridges were closed, I think some of the trail was flooded. I was able to do most of it, but the cypress oak pass was a bit too soggy. The total was about 2.8 miles. I will come back to explore the other parts of the park next week.

A very unique State Park. The springs here are nothing like the iconic turquoise ones you get in the rest of the state, nor can you swim in them, but they're still very neat.

We hiked rather than paddling so we missed out on the 5 star experience. What we did get was a nice Florida ecology hike with some solid views, and a reasonably high mosquito volume. The water sources are opaque compared to a lot of spring experiences, but the views are otherwise pretty nice. A fun variety of birds and trail selections with several elevated perch options including a building at the main parking area which has restrooms. Several eagle nests are around the area and we even managed to catch an extremely young snake sighting. If you go with sunscreen and bug spray, you should have a good experience. If you go to paddle, I'd say it's likely an excellent experience.

Parking is 4.00 and there was plenty of spaces. You definitely can tell Pasco Co. is under water restrictions the marsh areas are very dry and brittle.. Not a lot of water access for fishing but there is some..
